It is hard to believe that we are almost half way through this year. It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating Christmas and kicking off a new year. My grandmother used to say, “The older you get, the faster time goes”. I used to think that she was off her rocker, but I have come to the realization that she was a lot smarter than I gave her credit for being.
With time flying like it is, it brings me to the subject of this month’s article: “Urgency in the Gospel”. There are those around us who need Jesus as their Savior, there are those around us who need Jesus as an Encourager, there are those around us who need Jesus as a Healer, and there are those around us who need Jesus and don’t even know it.
This is why it is so important for us to be the hands and feet of Jesus. It is so important for us to be the eyes and mouth of Jesus. We have so much work to do in helping to spread the Gospel to those around us that the word urgency comes to mind. In 1st Thessalonians 5:2, we are told that Jesus will return like a thief in the night. In Matthew 24:36, the Bible teaches that no man knows the hour of the Lord’s return. Folks, that is why it is so important that we share the good news of Jesus Christ to those around us. However, once we see people come to know Jesus, it is not the end, but rather the beginning of our work. Jesus told us to make disciples of those we reach. That is exactly what we must be doing.
Over the next few weeks we are going to have some great opportunities to reach people for Jesus. Those opportunities are starting this weekend with our Vacation Bible School kick-off block party. I know that there are those who might think this is not for them. However, I want to encourage everyone to show up for this event Sunday at 5:00 p.m. When we show up and build relationships with those guests who attend, we are showing them that we love them and want them as part of our church. There will be hot dogs, popcorn, games, drinks, and more during this event.
Next week is another great opportunity to reach people for Jesus. Vacation Bible School is Monday-Thursday from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. each night. As parents drop off their children, we need people there to greet them and show the love of Jesus to those who darken our doors. This is a wonderful way to build community relations as well as striving to build the Kingdom of God.
We are working on a couple of opportunities for July and August which we will be announcing at a later date. Folks, God is at work, and He wants us to be a part of it. Let’s do all we can to show the Love of Jesus to those around our community as we are going through each day of our lives.
